every teardrop

So I heard Coldplay were back in the recording studio and I was genuinely excited. Coldplay are the reason I got out of the hindi music rut I was in, they were the first band I really got into.. I guess I eventually would have gotten into western music anyway, but as it happens Coldplay was it for me.

Coldplay was the first band that I bought every CD of, memorized the lyrics to, googled the  members and wore bracelets and rings like Chris Martin. Viva la Vida really isnt all there is to CP and Comparisons to U2 (shudder) are unfounded, especially if you look back to Parachutes. Bono and gang couldn't come up with brilliance like that of 'Spies' or "Don't Panic".

Anyway, I just heard their new single and its disappointing. Maybe i'll warm up to it, but I'm definitely not gonna put it on infinite repeat like with Warning Sign or Lost!. To be honest, it seems like they found a formula that sells and they're sticking with it. Every Teardrop.. sounds like a B side to Lovers in Japan or Glass of Water.

I kinda wish they went back to their sound in Parachutes went in that more moody, bluesy direction than with the synth poppy direction the new album is rumored to have taken. With an opening single like Every Teardrop, I'm not sure I want to hear the rest and shatter my illusions of reprisal for CP.

Oh well, its possible that the album will be super awesome and I'll end up eating my words.
